Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

Hello everyone. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Time finally slowed down enough for us to enjoy some down time with our children. There’s nothing like a trip to the ice cream shop and playing at the new playground!

Let’s talk this week a little about getting out of our comfort zones. Can anyone think of a time when they had to do something completely out of their comfort zone? Whether it was attending a special event, having a difficult conversation, perhaps starting a new job in a different field, moving out of state, etc… Whatever the situation, it’s always a little unnerving when you have to step out of your comfort zone. It definitely requires FAITH to step out of your comfort zone. We have to have total trust and confidence that God is going to see us through whatever the situation may be. Writing this blog is actually out of my comfort zone. I was so hesitant in the beginning, and I had to pray and truly seek the Lord before I started.

Sometimes the Lord calls us to do things that are so far out of our comfort zones, that we don’t think we’re able to do the job. We tend to feel like we aren’t good enough, or smart enough. Oftentimes, we believe that someone else may be better for the job. However, the amazing thing is that God chose YOU. We tend to forget and not see what an honor it is when God chooses us to do something. What an honor it is, when God gives us a special assignment to do! It can be so hard to see it that way though. Typically, fear instantly fills our hearts. We begin to think about all of the “What If’s”. What if I say the wrong thing, what if I do something wrong, what if I fail…. I don’t know about you, but these are the things that begin to run through my head.

In order to step out of our comfort zone, we must step into faith. Faith in God and His Word. Here are a few scriptures we need to remind ourselves of:

Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
2 Timothy 1:7
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
John 15:16
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

We can find strength and courage in these scriptures.

I will be relying on these verses a lot this week. I have a speaking engagement at the end of this week that is WAY out of my comfort zone. I’m not one to be in front of people at all. I much prefer supporting my husband and being more of a “behind the scenes” kind of person. However, God has opened up an opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone. I almost said no, but deep within I knew it was a situation ordained by God. So, I ask that each of you say a prayer for me that I will not only remember these scriptures, but keep them in my heart.

If God has given you something special to do; something that seems totally out of your comfort zone, I encourage you to read His Word and seek Him. Don’t allow your assignment to go undone. Let’s pray for each other, get out of our comfort zones and into faith. Have a blessed week!
