Lead By Example

Be the Change

Hello everyone. I hope you all are doing well. We have definitely been busy lately, but all is well in our household.

The past few days, I’ve been thinking a lot about how much negativity we see and hear. There’s always someone angry or upset about something. People are very open about their opinions, and more than willing to express themselves. Honestly, I’ve never been a person that likes drama. In fact, I try to avoid it if at all possible. I much prefer peace! If I disagree with someone, I’d rather just keep my comments to myself, and move on to something else. I understand that there are certain times when you NEED to speak up about certain things, but if the comments aren’t really necessary, then I’d rather just move on.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people would spread positivity more than negativity? Instead of ranting and raging about how angry you are about different things, why not put that energy to good use? Instead of spreading anger and stirring up trouble, why not do something nice for someone? Whatever happened to random acts of kindness?

I can remember a time years ago when my dad paid for someone else’s food in the drive thru line at a fast food restaurant. That young man was so happy and appreciative. I don’t know for sure, but I’m willing to believe he most likely returned the favor to someone else. I’m sure some of you have experienced the same thing. That is spreading love and kindness instead of spreading anger and hate. The world would be a much better place if we could just learn how to stop spreading so much hate.

A dear friend of ours came by for a visit last week, and insisted on fixing dinner so I wouldn’t have to worry about cooking. You better believe that meant the world to me! Little acts of kindness and love are absolutely priceless.

Some of you may be familiar with the song, “If I Can Help Somebody”:

If I can help somebody, as I travel along If I can help somebody, with a word or song If I can help somebody, from doing wrong No, my living shall not be in vain.

The words of this song is so powerful and so true. If only we could become more concerned about helping someone besides ourselves. Wow…

It doesn’t always have to be money or material things. It can be your time just to help someone. Maybe someone just need a listening ear, or a shoulder to cry on. Even just a smile or holding a door open for someone can help brighten a person’s day. I’m willing to believe that if we put in a little extra effort to show love and kindness, others will begin to do the same thing. Of course, not everyone is going to be nice, but let’s try to lead by example. Be the change that this world needs.

"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Ephesians 4:31-32

This week I encourage you to lead by example. Try to find a way to spread some kindness this week. Even if it isn’t reciprocated, just be an example. At least you won’t be adding to the negativity that’s already in this world. Show love and compassion instead of anger and hate. Let us all be the change that this world so desperately needs.

Have a great week!
